Genting Highlands was first built in the 1960's by Malaysian Chinese businessman, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. He thought of building a highland resort when he was on a trip to Cameron Highlands in 1964. Genting Highlands Berhad was then set up in April 1965, and a total of 14,000acre of land were secured by 1970.

Genting Highlands’ first milestone was its Theme Park Hotel, which was constructed and completed by 1971, followed by other hotels. In addition, in order to increase the resort’s accessibility, Genting Skyway (cable car) was installed 6 years later, enabling visitors to easily commute from place to another.

Up until today, Genting Highlands continues to develop its facilities and its attractions. Currently, an outdoor theme park is in the works and is expected to open in 2020.
